How do I automatically restart Studio Monitor?

LiveMIC relies on Studio Monitor or the Audio Engine to function correctly, meaning restarting the process at the studio end will often resolve most LiveMIC issues.

Like any software, if left running for an extended period (several months), Studio Monitor can occasionally hang or stop responding.

We recommend regularly restarting Studio Monitor to keep things running smoothly. This can be done manually before each outside broadcast, or you can schedule a restart at a convenient time.

This guide only applies if you are not using the Audio Engine. AE users can trigger a restart by triggering the command 'RESTART LIVEMIC'.

This guide will walk you through automatically restarting Studio Monitor using Windows' built-in Task Scheduler:

  1. Open the Task Scheduler

  2. Click 'Create Task...' in the Actions menu on the right of the window

  3. Give the task a recognisable name like 'Restart Studio Monitor' and make sure the task will run as the user account already running Studio Monitor
  4. Click 'Triggers' > 'New...' and select how frequently you would like Studio Monitor to restart
  5. You can either use the task's default setting and run it 'on a schedule', meaning starting at a fixed start date. Alternatively, you can change it so the task runs 'At log on' and the application will begin automatically when the machine loads and Studio Monitor will restart after a certain amount of time.
  6. In 'Advanced settings', you want the same length of time to appear in the 'Repeat task every' and 'Stop task if it runs longer than' boxes, with the process to keep running indefinitely.

In this example, Studio Monitor will restart every day at the same time the computer last logged on.

When configuring your task, make sure Studio Monitor will not restart when you are likely to be using it to avoid being disconnected while LiveMIC is in use.

  7. Once you have configured your trigger, press 'OK' and then move along to the 'Actions' tab and click 'New...'
  8. Keep the action set as 'Start a program' then enter the path to your Studio Monitor application (usually C:\PlayoutONE\Modules\P1_Studio_Monitor.exe) and press 'OK'

  9. Once you have created your trigger and action, click 'OK' again and the task will be stored in your computer's library where it will either run when next scheduled (at the time specified or when the PC next restarts), or you can navigate to it and press 'Run' in the Actions menu on the right of the window to start it manually.
