WebVT's Segue Editor and recording tracks

In order to record a voicetrack first click on the Microphone icon on the very top. If you have tooltips turned on then hovering over it will give you the tooltip Segue Editor and Recorder.

This will open up the segue editor on the bottom half of your screen. In this, you will see three waveforms load, a timeline, a white play head bar and some transport controls underneath along with some other buttons.

You can click and drag the 2nd and 3rd waveforms to adjust their start positions. When you do this you will see a legend appear to show the new start position in the timeline and also what the gap time will be when you save this adjustment. This is extremely useful for fine-tuning logs to the second.

Controls

Zoom Out / Zoom In
These two buttons do just that on the segue editor. They allow you to adjust the granularity and accuracy of what you can see.

Play / Stop
Starts playing from the play head. You can click anywhere on the segues to position the play head and can play from anywhere you want to. Pressing this while playing, stops the playback.

Start Recording (Keyboard shortcut - Spacebar)
This is a multi-state button as it initially starts the recording processes but then behaves in one of two ways depending on the settings you have chosen in Settings:

  • Start recording microphone immediately (ON)
When this is enabled the system does just that. From this point forward clicking this button again will start the next item playing whilst allowing you to continue recording. Pressing once more after that stops the recording and prompts you if you wish to commit this recording.
  • Start recording microphone immediately (OFF)
When this is off then from the second click of this button the recording is started, so on the pre-roll nothing is recorded. Clicking again after recording has begun starts the next item playing whilst allowing you to continue recording. Pressing once more after that stops the recording and prompts you if you wish to commit this recording.
Note: If the Start Recording button is disabled then you need to check you have allowed your browser permission to access your microphone.

Previous / Next Voicetrack Note
Navigate through the log looking for the previous and next valid voicetrack note. This helps you locate your voicetrack places.

Note: This works by looking at notes for a specific line of text in the title. As an administrator, you specify what this is in the Settings under Admin. The default is "Voicetrack here".

Length
This shows the length of the recorded item as it is being recorded.

Triple Stack
Shows/hides the Triple Stack. See the Triple Stack section on how this operates.

Duck / Raise Triple Stack Volumes
For use when using the Triple Stack. When any audio is playing from the Triple Stack this button will lower or raise the volume. You can set what level to duck to in the Settings. See Triple Stack section for more on this. TOTO: Link to Triple Stack section.

Save
Save the segue after making timing adjustments. When this is flashing red, it is alerting you that you have unsaved changes.

Mic Volume
This is just a volume meter so you can see the level of your input.

Mic Gain
You can use this to lower or raise your input gain.

Note: This does not change the overall computer system settings for your input device. It just attenuates the audio being delivered to the browser.

Reset Mic Gain
If you want to quickly reset your Mic Gain to 0db.
