Using LiveStream as a local streaming server
The LiveStream app has a lightweight streaming server built-in, which can stream lower-latency audio over a local network.
This is intended for use with a small number of network audio players like Barix boxes, rather than for listeners to connect to directly. Aiir Streaming is better suited for public streams as its load-balancing technology ensures stable connections.
Enabling the local server
To enable LiveStream's mini-streaming server:
- Open LiveStream and add a new encoder.
- Give it a description, like "Local Stream".
- Choose your server type. It can be IceCast or Shoutcast depending on what your stream players support.
- Enter the server IP
0.0.0.0
- Leave the default port as
8000
. - Choose a mount point if required. For example,
test
. - Leave the username and password fields blank.
- Choose your bitrate, sample rate and audio format.
- Press 'Save'
- Turn on your newly added encoder.
Connecting to the local server
Once your local server is enabled, on the stream player or device you will use to listen to it, connect to the IP address of your PC running LiveStream, the port and the mount point set in LiveStream. For example:http://192.168.1.23:8000/test
Please note that LiveStream's mini server is not intended to replace a dedicated streaming service. It can be used to reduce latency for local audio players, but allowing large volumes of listeners to connect directly may cause stability issues.
