Apps known to interfere with PlayoutONE
PlayoutONE is designed to work with a wide range of different broadcasting applications, however over time, some problematic apps have been reported to us as interfering with PlayoutONE if running on the same PC.
Here is a list of apps known to cause issues with PlayoutONE and some alternative options:
Dell SupportAssist
While the principle of Dell's SupportAssist application seems a good one, several stations running PlayoutONE have reported issues of high CPU usage and throttled performance affecting the smooth running of their playout system.
Some versions of the SupportAssist client run in the background, at times consuming more than half of an in-spec computer's available CPU, causing other applications to suffer.
We recommend uninstalling Dell SupportAssist and checking for updated drivers through Dell's website instead.
Norton Antivirus / Internet Security
Security applications from Norton have previously been found to block ports required by vital parts of PlayoutONE, such as the Audio Engine or keeping logs synced between studio computers and your server. This happens even with exclusions set in Norton to grant PlayoutONE access.
We recommend uninstalling Norton and using the built-in Windows Defender instead, which honours any firewall exclusions created for PlayoutONE.
SentinelOne
The security application, SentinelOne, has been found to incorrectly flag and quarantine vital components of PlayoutONE as malware. This can happen without warning, leading to PlayoutONE crashing due to vital components no longer being accessible.
We recommend uninstalling SentinelOne from any on-air PlayoutONE machines and using the built-in Windows Defender instead.
