Playing audio from xLog

PlayoutONE's xLog allows you to deviate from regular scheduled programming, such as during live sports coverage.

On this page, we'll explain how to switch from playing your regular log to xLog and back again.

Enabling XLog

Our recommended way of switching to XLog is using a predefined macro command. You can create one from Command Manager, including the following commands:

XLOG LOAD [TEMPLATE NAME] Load a template you previously created into xLog. Replace [TEMPLATE NAME] with the name of your template.
MUTE LOG ON Mutes your main log audio output but keeps it running in the background ready to unmute at the end of your live event.
XLOG PLAY NEXT Starts the xLog running.
XLOG AUTOMATION ON Switches on Automation mode for the xLog, allowing it to play items in your template uninterrupted until disabled.

Once you have created your macro command, you can schedule it in your main music log whenever you want to break away and start the xLog.

Disabling xLog

The end of an xLog is usually triggered by a relay closure, such as an 'end of game' trigger if used during live sports coverage.

We'll need to create another macro command which will disable xLog and return your station to its regular programming. It should contain:

XLOG STOP EVERYTHING Stops the xLog from playing immediately. You could alternatively use XLOG AUTOMATION OFF if you want an item currently playing in xLog to play to the end before stopping.
XLOG CLEAR Removes all the items currently shown in the xLog Player and returns it to its empty state.
MUTE LOG OFF Unmutes your main PlayoutONE music log, returning to normal programming.
Command(s) to turn off satellite channels and disable responding to contact closures These will vary depending on how your station is configured in PlayoutONE. Ask your engineer or Aiir Support if you are unsure which commands are required.
An example of how a macro to disable xLog could look. In this case "SAT: OFF" and "GPI: OFF" disable satellite channels and Data Controller responding to contact closures.

XLog Player

Right-clicking the PlayoutONE log will reveal an option to open the xLog Player. This is a separate module which you can have alongside your regular PlayoutONE interface to see how the xLog is progressing.

It also gives you basic control of it, including a button to play the next item and toggle automation on and off.
