Switching PlayoutONE to a standby server
PlayoutONE can be easily switched from your main server to a standby server if needed.
On this page, we'll explain what standby servers can be used for and how to enable and disable it.
What is a standby server?
A standby server is another machine with virtually identical hardware specs to your main PlayoutONE server, which can be used as a failsafe to keep you on air if your main PlayoutONE server ever needs to reboot.
Your main server is continuously backed up to the standby server, enabling a seamless switchover if the main server becomes unavailable.
Switching to a standby server
To switch to a standby server:
- Take your Audio Engine off-air on your main PlayoutONE server.
- In Audio Engine on your standby server, go to Settings > Other > Isolation & Plugins.
- Click 'Switch to Standby Server'.
- Put the Audio Engine back on-air and sync up the log.
Switching back to your main server
Once you no longer need your standby server and the main server is operational again, reverse the steps you just completed:
- Put your standby server's Audio Engine off-air.
- In the Audio Engine on your main server, go to Settings > Other > Isolation & Plugins.
- Click 'Disable Standby Server'.
- Put the Audio Engine back on-air and sync up the log.
