Skills on Alexa+

Amazon has begun rolling out an update to Alexa devices in select regions, replacing the "original Alexa" operating system with a new AI-powered version called Alexa+.

Our skills remain compatible with devices running Alexa+, but the way your listeners invoke the skill may have changed.

Where previously "Alexa, play [station name]" might have been used, Alexa+ will interpret that as a request to use one of its included music providers, such as TuneIn.

To ensure listeners using Alexa+ continue to access your station via its skill, they may need to say something like "Alexa, launch the [station name] skill". As time goes on and Alexa+ learns their usage habits, the simpler invocation should resume working as it did before the Alexa+ upgrade.

The current advice from Amazon for Alexa listeners who find their skills no longer work is to opt out of the early-access program, which enabled Alexa+ on their device by saying "Alexa, end Early Access."
