'There was a problem playing audio' on Android

Occasionally, listeners may run into issues playing audio via a station's Android app and see the following error:

The full error reads: "There was a problem playing audio (code: android-io-cleartext-not-permitted, message: Source error"

This error isn't specific to Aiir's apps; it's used by the Android OS when it attempts to play an HTTPS audio stream but fails.

HTTP-only streams are no longer supported on modern versions of Android.

To help troubleshoot this issue, we recommend going to your Mobile App station's 'Streams' section in the Aiir CMS and copying the stream URL the app tries to use into a regular browser tab.

You may find there is an issue with the stream link and will need to contact your streaming provider for assistance in troubleshooting the problem.

If you have an alternative stream URL you can use, replacing the broken stream URL in Aiir with a working one will take effect from the next time a listener opens the app.
