Posting to X from Social Publisher

Social Publisher is Aiir's integrated tool for sharing content to various social networks.

For many years, organisations could link their Twitter (as it was) accounts to cross-publish content to it, Facebook, and other platforms.

Since it became X, new pay-per-usage pricing has been introduced, which has meant the way Aiir connects to X has had to change.

To continue posting from Aiir after 30 October 2026, each X account will need to be linked to your own X Developer account.

On this page, we'll explain how to set that up.

Creating an X Developer account and app

1. Sign in to the X Developer Portal using the account you want to add to Aiir.
2. Click Apps in the left-hand menu, then + Create App. The app's name must be globally unique across every X Developer and can't contain spaces. Try your X handle or station name without spaces.
3. You'll be given a Consumer Key and Secret Key (this is what we call "Consumer Key Secret below). These are only ever shown once, so copy and paste them into Aiir by following the steps listed below. You can ignore the Bearer Token; we don't need it.

4. While logged into Aiir as an Administrator, go to your social accounts and add or update your X account(s).
5. On the "Add an X account" or "Edit account" screen, paste your Consumer Key and Consumer Key Secret from your X Developer account. There are a few more steps to complete before you try to add the credentials to Aiir.

6. In the X Developer Portal, tap your newly created app's name, then find User authentication settings near the bottom of the screen and tap Set up.
7. Set App permissions to "Read and write", and the type of app to "Web App, Automated App, or Bot". You'll also need to enter a callback URI and website URL on this page. Set both to:

8. Press Save Changes. Next, you'll be given an OAuth 2.0 Client ID and Client Secret. We don't need these, so you can press Close.
9. From the Apps list, tap your app's name again, then under OAuth 1.0 Keys, tap Generate next to Access Token. You'll be asked to confirm: tap Yes, then Regenerate.
10. Copy the provided Access Token and Access Token Secret shown, and paste them back into Aiir.

Once you have linked your X credentials, you and your team can continue posting as normal.

Why has this changed?

In June 2026, X changed what it charges users to post to its service from third-party applications. Until the end of October 2026, Aiir is absorbing these additional costs for existing X users. However, as some organisations use X considerably more than others, we decided the fairest course of action was to ask stations who wish to post to X to use their own API credentials.

This allows stations that wish to continue using X to do so, rather than removing the option altogether or passing the cost on to all our website CMS customers.

How can I continue posting without additional charges?

X's new charges only apply to third-party applications like Aiir. If you want to share your content via the company's own tools, like X.com or the X apps, you can continue to post at no extra cost.

Aiir's Social Publisher app remains free to use for other platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky and Threads.

What happens if I don't add our own X API credentials?

From November 2026, X accounts in Aiir without their own API credentials will not be able to share posts from Aiir's Social Publisher app. If you've ever had to re-authenticate one of your social accounts in the past, your X account will be in a similar state. You can resume posting as normal once you've added the credentials from your X Developer Portal.
