Types in PlayoutONE

Types define how specific items can interact with other items of different types.

When PlayoutONE is first set up, some common types are created for you, such as music, production and ads.

PlayoutONE's Type Manager manages the various item types in your library.

The Type Manager is part of the desktop PlayoutONE application and not present in WebVT.

On this page, we'll explain the various settings you can configure in the Type Manager.

Setting Description
Volume This allows you to set the volume of a type. This ranges between 0% and 100% and by default is set to 100%.
Title Rotation (mins) Time between items with the same title playing. This is used with the AutoFill part of the RunToTime command. By default, this is set to 60 minutes.
Artist Rotation (mins) Time between items by the same artist. This is used with the AutoFill part of the RunToTime command. By default, this is set to 120 minutes.
Billboard Tick this box if you wish the Artist and Title information to be sent as metadata to form your now-playing information.
Pitch  To define a whole type to play at a different pitch than others. Default is 0. Setting this to a positive number increases the pitch; setting it to a negative number decreases it.
Tempo To define a whole type to play at a slower or faster speed. Default is 0. Setting this to a positive number increases the pitch; setting it to a negative number decreases it.
Autofade Whether you wish items of this type to be able to be auto-faded by RunToTime in the playout log/playlist.
Stretch Whether you wish items of this type to be able to be stretched by RunToTime in the playout log/playlist.
Drop Whether you wish items of this type to be able to be dropped by RunToTime in the playout log/playlist.
Duck

When checked, items of this type can duck the volume of other items in other types when they play next to or over the top of them.

For example, pretend you had a song that didn't have duck checked, but you had a voicetrack that did have duck checked. When these tracks were played back, if you had the voicetrack playing over the song, the song's volume would be reduced by the DuckVol% (see below).

Note: If you have two types set to duck and they play over each other, the duck will cancel out, and nothing will happen.

DuckVol%

How much an item with duck enabled will decrease in volume compared to other items.

For example, voice tracks are usually set to duck other items so that when you are voice tracking over intros of songs, etc.

Importer This is used when importing via the Import External Data option. This is useful if the file you are importing contains types as numbers (rather than their names). This then allows PlayoutONE to correlate it with the types you have already created. By default, these are all set to 0 and only need to be adjusted in the above circumstance.
Meta Override

Setting this value will override the usual meta that is output for this type.

For example, if the billboard is enabled for the song type, rather than sending that out, it would send the text you have entered into this column.

If you set the Meta Override to %%DYNAMICMETA%% this will output what your Dynamic Meta is set to at the time.

Royalty Report Type This allows you to assign a type as Non-Music, Music or Advert. This is used when producing a PRS report from PlayoutONE.
CueSheet Ticking this option will cause the Type to be listed in a CueSheet. This is used when performing a mixdown from the Log, for more information please see this article
