Is my station using Audio Engine?

PlayoutONE supports two different methods of delivering audio: played directly by the PlayoutONE application, or using our new Audio Engine.

Some stations use Audio Engine, and others don't, which means the solutions to some common issues may vary. This page will help you determine whether your PlayoutONE system already uses Audio Engine.

Is Audio Engine installed?

Start by looking at the top of your main PlayoutONE window. If you see the name of your Audio Engine server and port number written in brackets, your station is using Audio Engine:

A station running using Audio Engine will tell you which server it is connected to in the taskbar.

You can also check the taskbar on your main PlayoutONE server or playout machine. If you see the Audio Engine Launcher running, your station is likely using Audio Engine.

The 'AEL' icon indictes Audio Engine Launcher is running on your machine.

If you cannot see this icon, either your station is not configured to use Audio Engine, or the process is not running as it should.

You can check which stations are using Audio Engine by going to the Audio Engine tab in Monitor:

The Audio Engine tab in Monitor will show all your stations using Audio Engine.

You can also look for shortcuts to Audio Engine or Audio Engine Launcher on your desktop or try running them from their default installation path:

C:/PlayoutONE/Modules/PlayoutONE Audio Engine Launcher.exe

If Audio Engine is installed but not running

If you can see Audio Engine has been installed but isn't working correctly, open Audio Engine Launcher, select your stations and press the appropriate 'Launch' button.

You can either launch individual stations or all the stations enabled on that machine.

You may also want to click 'Settings' and ensure that 'Start Audio Engine Launcher with Windows' is enabled.

Should I upgrade to Audio Engine?

We recommend using Audio Engine as it allows more intelligent distribution and more refined control over what audio you want to be played by which output device.

It also means PlayoutONE in the studio becomes a control surface rather than the audio coming directly from the PlayoutONE application. This allows you to restart it if necessary without taking your station off the air.

To resolve issues or during routine maintenance, Aiir's Support team may upgrade your system to use Audio Engine instead after consulting you.

Book a maintenance session to arrange an upgrade to Audio Engine, or email support@aiir.com for more information.
