Using PlayoutONE's Audio Engine with Aiir streaming

Audio Engine is a PlayoutONE Pro component which allows you to easily route audio and salvo commands in and out of your automation system.

This guide will help you connect the stream encoder built-in to PlayoutONE's Audio Engine to Aiir's streaming service.

Configuring Audio Engine

We recommend using the Audio Engine as the easiest way to keep your PlayoutONE-powered station on the air. However, unless your system has been configured to use it, it won't be installed.

If your PlayoutONE station isn't already using Audio Engine, contact Aiir Support and we can set it up for you.

  1. Open Audio Engine and click the 'Settings' button in the bottom right corner (shown by the gears/cogs symbol):

  2. Click on an Output Bus which isn't currently being used:

  3. Give it a suitable name to identify the output bus (for example, "Streaming"). Then, select 'Icecast or Shoutcast stream' as the destination type. Apply any DSP/VST processing, choose an existing output bus to share and enable the stream.

If your streaming bus is being fed by another bus which is already processed, make sure DSP/VST is set to 'None' to avoid double-processing.

  4. Before you press 'Save', switch to the 'Stream' tab. Select 'Icecast2' as your stream type, and specify your station's broadcast settings from the Aiir streaming dashboard.

  5. On the 'Encoding' tab, specify your chosen audio format. Aiir Streaming currently supports MP3 or AAC encoding. You can choose to make your stream publicly accessible and send metadata to Aiir Streaming (which can be used to compile royalty reports).

Here is an overview of how your settings on the 'Stream' and 'Encoding' tabs should be configured for use with Aiir Streaming:

    Stream Type Icecast2
    Streaming Server uplink.aiir.com
    Port 80
Mount point / SID See below
    Username source
    Password See below
    Encoding MP3 or AAC
    Sample Rate 44100
    Bitrate 128
Public Make your stream publicly accessible.
Send Metadata Embed a copy of your PlayoutONE now playing info in your stream so the data can be used by Aiir Streaming.
  6. If you set your stream to be public, you can set your station title, description, genre, and URL in the 'Details' tab. However, this isn't required for Aiir Streaming to work.

  7. Once you have filled out the tabs as required, press 'Save'. You will see your streaming bus with audio bars bouncing to show the stream is active.

  8. Press 'OK' and minimize Audio Engine.
  9. Check your Aiir streaming dashboard, and you should be all set to listen to your station online.

Getting your encoder settings

If you are connecting Audio Engine to your Aiir streaming service for the first time, you will need your station's unique mount point and encoder password.

To retrieve them, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Aiir Streaming account.
  2. Click 'Stations' in the menu on the left-hand side of the page and select the name of the station you want to manage.
  3. Click the 'Broadcast settings' button on the right of the page.
  4. Copy the required details and paste them into Audio Engine:

The blue button on the right of each field will copy the details to your clipboard.
