Backing up PlayoutONE
You can create full backups of your PlayoutONE system to an external drive or cloud storage service like Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.
These can be set up through Monitor by following these steps:
Backing up to external drives
- Open Monitor
- Click 'Main Settings' from the toolbar
- Click the 'Backups' tab
- Enable the 'External Drive' backup
- Specify a backup directory where you would like your PlayoutONE data to be copied to. This should be on an external hard drive, NAS or other device seperate from the hard drive where PlayoutONE is currently installed.
- Once configured, press 'Run' to start the initial backup
- Save your changes.
Backing up to the cloud
- Open Monitor
- Click 'Main Settings' from the toolbar
- Click the 'Backups' tab
- Enable the 'Cloud Backup' option
- Choose which source directory PlayoutONE is currently installed in (usually C:/PlayoutONE)
- Choose your destination from the dropdown list
- Follow the steps to allow PlayoutONE to process your data and authenticate with your cloud storage provider.
- Once configured, the initial backup job should begin automatically.
- Save your changes.
If you wish to use a cloud storage provider that is not integrated directly with PlayoutONE, you may be able to install the storage provider's Windows sync client and set up an External Drive backup in Monitor using the sync folder as your backup directory.
If the files are being saved into the local sync folder but do not appear in your cloud storage, you will need to contact your provider for assistance.
Backing up to a standby server
A standby server can be used to synchronise your PlayoutONE system with another server, so if anything were to happen to your main machine, the standby one can be ready to go at a moment's notice.
Standby servers must meet PlayoutONE's minimum hardware requirements, as they may have to act as your station's server.
To set up syncing with a standby server:
- Open Monitor
- Click 'Main Settings' from the toolbar
- Click the 'Backups' tab
- Click 'Standby Server'
- Enter your standby server's hostname or IP address
- Ensure the data and audio paths are set correctly (and audio syncing is enabled if you want to create a backup of your audio files)
- Once configured, press 'Synchronise'
- Save your changes.
