Are my rules causing scheduling issues?

Having too many unbreakable rules, or unbreakable rules which are too strict, can cause issues when scheduling your logs.

As you schedule your logs, you will see a warning if any clock positions could not be filled, as no matching items were available.

Clicking or tapping 'Fix issue' on the unscheduled item will reveal which rule or rules prevented the position from being scheduled:

Part of a clock containing two unscheduled items.

You can find out more about fixing scheduling issues here.

To prevent future scheduling issues, consider relaxing some of your unbreakable rules by either:

  • reducing the period the rule covers (e.g. several days' separation down to several hours)
  • making unbreakable rules breakable

Scheduler will still try to stick to breakable rules, but if it exhausts all its options, it won't leave you with any unscheduled items.

If the Issues pane reveals that multiple rules have prevented an item from being scheduled, you will see the order in which Scheduler tested the available items. Once any item has broken an unbreakable rule, other unbreakable rules which apply will prevent the excluded items from being tested again.

For example, if you had 250 items in a category but no items scheduled due to three rules, the first rule may have prevented 150 items from being scheduled, the second rule may have prevented 75 items, and the third rule may have prevented the final 25 potential items. You will see how many items were tested by each rule in the Issues pane.
