Which version of PlayoutONE am I running?
As PlayoutONE is comprised of several different applications, there can be slight variations in the version numbers reported.
While individual apps still retain a legacy version number, which may appear differently, we commonly refer to version numbers like 5.2.9, which relate to the entire suite of apps installed.

Why are the version numbers so complicated?
As some PlayoutONE components are older than others, we're currently limited by some of the older technology used by certain applications in the suite.
That's why we're completely rewriting the main PlayoutONE.exe application (the main interface) in the upcoming version 6. It's the oldest part of PlayoutONE and shares the same foundation as its predecessor, DARP NG.
One of those limitations is a restriction on how version numbers can be structured, where we're limited to a major version (eg. 5), a minor version (eg. 2) and a build version (eg. the date the application was created).
Version 6 should make this article redundant, with simple, consistent version numbers used across all parts of PlayoutONE and its components.
